Someone had painted thick coats of paint on this doll and then covered with thick varnish. His features were hidden under the thick combination of the two substances. I stripped the varnish and paint off him, repaired all damaged compo and airbrushed him. He is a very cute doll!

Composition Mama Doll

This doll was in very bad condition. She had numerous cracks on her head and missing large chunks of composition. She was missing her right leg. Her cloth body was tattered and falling apart. She was also missing all lashes on her left eye. I did a complete restoration on her. Many areas of missing composition had to be rebuilt and curls had to be resculpted. I replaced her missing leg with another that matched the left leg. I also made a new cloth body using the original one as a pattern. I added eyelashes to her left eye so both eyes match. She is once again a beautiful doll!

Madame Alex. Composition "Pinkie"

This composition and cloth baby doll came to me with lots of cracks in the paint and cracked iris's. I stripped all the paint off her, repaired all damage, and airbrushed her with similar colors. Glass eyes used on composition dolls often craze and shatter over time. This is caused by rust that gets into the metal eye mechanism and damages these delicate eyes. Many people suggest using a drop of sewing machine oil into the eye which is a big mistake. That will darken the eye and make the damage less obvious, but the oil must go somewhere and often seeps out to the sides into the composition. This damages the composition alongside the eye. These crazed eyes can be repaired by simply replacing the iris's with new ones. I do this procedure at my doll hospital and have put up this example with a Before/After picture so you can see the dramatic difference. Her eyes received new clear lenses and I even added a few eyelashes to the right eye that had been a bit sparse.

Mama Doll

This mama doll came to me suffering from a very poor restoration by an amateur using oil paints. The paint had been brushed on heavily. The composition had deteriorated from the exposure to oil. I stripped her to the bare composition and had to do a lot of rebuilding of the composition. She was then airbrushed to bring her back to her original beauty. She also had a modern cloth body that did not fit properly. I created a body appropriate for her patterned from a similar doll. Click under the photo to see her "after" photos.
